1. Date of issue reported by Maury as February, 1896, although he did not sell them until there supposed use in Ethiopia in October, 1896. 2. Quantity of 75,000 not verified, but would reduce the amount of issue for the Menelik II design of the 1895 issue and the 3 high values of this issue. 3. Never placed in used in Ethiopia. All cancels are forgeries, often EN2-F2 in greenish blue, and non Ethiopian cancels. |
IMITATION
The original plates were said to be worn, and the "printer" made new plates for this issue. It may be these were made by the stamp dealer Forbin to utilize his large stock of unoverprinted stamps. Size: 14½ mm across bottom of ASKEFIL. Handstamped rather than typographed, and pairs with one overprint inverted exist, or pairs with one overprint missing. Larger tops and feet on characters. Rounder FI. Right lets of L curves in. Often cancelled EN2-F2 in blue or black. |
