| Notes:
1. June 27, 1931 is often given as the date of issue. This may have been the printing date or date the four low values arrived in Addis Abeba. 2. Known perforated 10 x 10, 10 x 11, and 11 x 11. These have not been confirmed as originals or reprints. 3. At lease two printings of most values. Later printings often have dies retouched, most noticably in the eyes. Later printings in darker color shades which is most noticable in the 1g , 2g (many shades), and 3t. 4. Many used 3t appear to have fake cancels, with postal use difficult to find. |
Reprints
| Reprint identification:
Reprints exist of the 1/8g to 2g only; the 4g to 5t are always originals. Reprints are in the same colors as later printings with retouched dies. Positive identification can be made under magnification with the surface ink. The original ink is dull and granular. Reprint ink is heavy and caked with a flat, shiny surface. The ¼g original has heavy ink and is sometime difficult to separate from the reprint. References to difference in paper thickness and color of gum is usually not reliable for identification. |
